"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor
hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth" (Revelation 3:15-16).
Heavenly Father, I remember when my relationship with you was new and fresh. Like receiving a new gift, I cherished you, longed for you, pursued you. My prayer life was vibrant. My love for the Bible was intoxicating. My worship attendance was persistent. I could not get enough. Something happened. Time. Disappointments. Successes. Distractions. Life. I've allowed everything else to smother my my spiritual fervor. I understand clearly that the default setting for me should be hot not cold, but I cannot ignore the plain fact that my relationship to Jesus is cold. I don't want it to be. I didn't intend it to be. It just is. I want the warmth back along with the fervor and zeal. Forgive me of the sin of apathy and complacency in spiritual matters. Come, Lord Jesus, and retake the territory of my heart that I've allowed to be possessed by the enemy. You are my Lord, Savior, and Strength. I recommit myself to you and to the disciplines of the Christian faith by your grace and power. Help me, Lord, not to dishonor you any longer. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain." -- A. W.
