GOD'S CALL
From Abraham to a rag-tag band of twelve disciples, God's call to people has essentially been "Follow me and trust me." When these people accepted God's invitation, they learned first-hand the presence of God, power of God, provision of God, and preservation of God. Each of them grew in the wisdom and knowledge of God, and they served God and his purpose in this world. They became more like God in their essential character and nature. In a word, they experienced life-transformation.
God still calls people with the same message today. Likewise, when we hear, accept, and obey the call of God, we experience life-transformation. The Great Commission of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:18-20). Our marching orders, as followers of Jesus, is to invest our lives in the life-transformation of others.
PERSONAL INVESTMENT
For each of us, God's unique way of serving Him manifests itself in our lives according to the work of the Holy Spirit in us and through us, the spiritual gift(s) we were given at salvation, our continued spiritual growth, our faith, and our obedience. Not everyone is called to preaching and pastoral ministry, training church leaders, going inside hard places like prisons to lead people to Christ, or visiting foreign fields to spread the gospel. Yet all of us were called to invest our resources, be "senders" if you will, so that others with those callings can go. Moreover, as the servants in Jesus' Parable of the Talents teach us, each of us will be held accountable to God for how we used the gifts, talents, and callings we received from Him (Matthew 25:14-30).
